Jenny Barringer can do no wrong as she has won again.
In a news release Wednesday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Barringer as the 2009 Mountain Region Athlete of the Year. In addition, head cross country coach Mark Wetmore was named the Mountain Region Women’s Coach of the Year.
The senior Barringer clinched the honor after winning the NCAA Mountain Region Championship by more than 12 seconds Saturday. Barringer has won all four races she’s been involved in this season.
Wetmore won his 15th COY, but only his fifth as the Colorado Buffaloes women’s coach.
Barringer and Wetmore may be eyeing national recognition Monday when the Buffs compete for the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. The men’s race will begin at 10:08 a.m. followed by the women at 10:58 a.m. The event will be televised live on the Versus Network and on NCAA.com.
