Week 4 of the National Football League saw a trio of former Colorado Buffaloes from the 2001 Fiesta Bowl team make their mark. Unfortunately, two were pitted against each other. However, the third helped pitch a big, fat doughnut on the scoreboard.
Here are a few Buffs who made contributions Sunday:
Michael Lewis, San Francisco 49ers safety: The defensive standout recorded a team-high eight tackles, five on St. Louis Rams’ star Steven Jackson, to lead the NFC West-leading 49ers to a 35-0 shutout.
Daniel Graham, Denver Broncos tight end: Graham contributed three catches for 36 yards to the still-undefeated Broncos’ 17-10 come-from-behind win over the Dallas Cowboys at home.
Andre Gurode, Dallas Cowboys center: The offensive lineman saved a touchdown as he tackled linebacker D.J. Williams at the Cowboys’ 9-yard line when Williams tried to return quarterback Tony Romo’s fumble for a score.
Justin Bannan, Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle: Bannan had four tackles in helping the Ravens hold the high-octane Patriots offense to 85 rushing yards in a 27-21 loss, their first of the season.
Jordon Dizon, Detroit Lions linebacker: Dizon made a single tackle as the Lions were doubled up by the Bears 48-24 at Soldier Field.
What to watch for on Monday Night Football: Kicker Mason Crosby and the Green Bay Packers will travel to the Metrodome to face former-teammate-turned-nemesis Brett Favre in a battle for first place in the NFC North.
