According to a Boulder Police Department press release, the Boulder PD is “reactivating its investigation” of the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey.
“After more than 12 years, the bottom line is that we still have an unsolved homicide,” said Boulder PD Chief Marc Beckner in the press release.
The decision was made with the agreement of Boulder County’s newly elected District Attorney, Stan Garnett. An “advisory task force” has been assembled from a wide range of state and federal agencies to help with the new investigative work.
Ramsey was found murdered in Boulder in 1996, but the case has still not been solved.
According to the press release, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Attorney General’s Office, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, the Denver County Sheriff’s Office, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Denver Police Department and the Telluride Police Department have all agreed to send at least one representative to the task force.
Beckner and Garnett have agreed that “a traditional law enforcement/prosecution relationship is appropriate.” Boulder PD detectives will perform the follow-up work.
The press release also stated that “the department does not plan to give regular updates about the work of the task force, unless there is a significant development or a determination is made that releasing information would be helpful to the ongoing investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Boulder PD detective tip line at 303-441-1974.
