Former CU football coach and athletic director Eddie Crowder to be remembered
Former CU football coach and athletic director Eddie Crowder died from complications of leukemia Tuesday evening at the Exempla Health Center in Lafayette, Colo. at the age of 77.
Crowder served as head football coach at CU from 1963 to 1973, and as athletic director from 1965 to 1984. When he retired from coaching, he did so as the second all-time winningest coach in CU football history.
In his lifetime, he was inducted into the State of Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, the State of Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame.
“We have lost a tremendous leader, coach, mentor and friend,” current CU athletic director Mike Bohn said in a press release. “His indelible imprint on CU will always be a cornerstone of the athletic program.”
A memorial service for Crowder
is planned for this Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the east side club rooms of Folsom Field. It is open to the public, and there will be free parking around the stadium.
