Recruit will join team in June
A record number of people filled into the Folsom Field stands at the spring game Saturday, but there was one person Buff fans would have rather seen on the field.
Highly-touted running back recruit Darrell Scott came to Boulder for the weekend, and despite his efforts, was easily picked out in the stands by CU fans.
“I took my (colorful) shirt off, they still spotted me,” Scott said.
Scott was the No. 1 running back out of this year’s recruiting class, according to multiple recruiting databases.
Scott will join his uncle, Josh Smith, at Colorado in the fall. Smith is a rising sophomore wide receiver and was second on the team in receiving yards last season. Scott and Smith played together in high school.
For the spring game, the first-string offense and second-string defense took on the second-string offense and first-string defense respectively. After watching, Scott said he was impressed with what he saw from the team.
“We are looking good,” Scott said.
Right now, Scott has yet to start practicing with the Buffs. He said he is currently following a training regimen from his personal trainer in California. He will officially move out to Boulder and start practicing with the team on June 14.
As a senior at Ventura St. Bonaventure High School in California, Scott rushed for 1,697 yards and 21 touchdowns. He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Colorado football team upon arrival.
Scott said he is excited about getting started with the Buffs.
“I just want to get out, compete for a starting spot,” Scott said.
