Two CU football players will make their court appearances this month.
21-year-old CU football player Riar Geer, a junior majoring in history, faces charges of assault in the second-degree, assault in the third-degree, and harassment at a hearing scheduled for April 17 at 9 a.m. at the Justice Center.
According to the police report, Geer was arrested March 14 on suspicion for the offenses of assault in the second-degree and harassment.
According to the report, Geer allegedly assaulted two victims, freshman civil engineering major Hunter Wright and freshman management major Alexander Williams, outside a party on March 14.
According to the police report, the victims described the suspects and CU Police Department officers arrested two males matching the description of the suspects. The victims identified Geer as one of the suspects.
Sophomore integrative physiology major Andrew Badalamenti, Geer’s roommate was also arrested, but for unrelated charges. According to the police report “CU Police Department’s Officer D. Vinzant arrested the other suspect, Andrew Badalamenti. Neither Williams nor Wright identified Badalamenti in a show-up. Badalamenti was transported to Boulder County Jail on unrelated charges.”
In the report, Badalamenti told Vinzant that he was inside the house and looked outside and saw Geer involved in an altercation. He then went outside and saw Geer knock a hat off an unknown male and saw the male put it back on and then Geer knock it back off. “At this time, Badalamenti was punched and knocked to the ground. When he got up, he noticed that Geer was involved in a fight,” the report said.
Badalamenti faces charges of assault in the third-degree and under-age consumption. His arraignment was held on March 24 at 9 a.m. and his pretrial conference is scheduled for May 6 at 9:15 a.m.
Also, on March 14 new freshman and five-star CU football recruit Lynn Katoa turned himself in to Boulder police in connection to an assault on another CU student that had according to police occurred on Feb. 16 in the 1000 block of 12th St. around 1.am.
Witnesses told police that a CU football player had entered the apartment and assaulted two people. Witnesses also told officers that the suspect was holding a rock as he slammed one victim’s head into the wall and hit another victim with his fist.
After further investigation revealed that the assault was caused by an altercation outside the apartment. According to police, one of Katoa’s friends was allegedly shocked by a stun gun during a fight outside the apartment, which allegedly angered Katoa. According to police the men with the stun gun left in a vehicle and Katoa then allegedly picked up a rock and went into the apartment to confront the occupants inside.
Katoa faces charges of second-degree assault and is scheduled for his preliminary hearing on April 15 at 9a.m.
