Tennis team gets their fifth straight win
The Buffs have a 10-day break to relax from their two weekend games. Hopefully the time off will not end the momentum the women’s tennis team has gained over the past two weeks.
Colorado has won its past five games and swept its past four opponents.
Just two days after sweeping Kansas, the CU women’s tennis team defeated Kansas State 7-0.
The Sunday match against KSU was the Buffs’ third Big 12 game of the season, and the win gave them a 3-0 record in conference play.
Head coach Nicole Kenneally said the match against the Wildcats was a full effort of the team from start to finish.
“I’m really happy with how they performed,” Kenneally said. “We played well from beginning to end, and the scores were indicative of that.”
All together, the Buffs were able to win every doubles and singles match they played in Sunday.
In her singles match, sophomore Melisa Esposito was able to hold her opponent to a two-set match where she won both sets, giving her a 6-0 6-0 score.
Esposito said she did not do anything special in her match today.
“Every match it is a fight,” Esposito said. “It’s important for the team to play how we have been.”
With Sunday’s win, the Buffs improved their record to 6-6, which is an improvement from the 1-6 record they had just one month ago.
Gleisy Torres Torres, a senior on the team, said winning has built the team’s confidence.
“Teamwork is what has brought us here,” Torres Torres said. “We’re the same team as last year with only two freshmen. We’ve managed to win opportunities and it’s helped playing at home. Last year our away games were all in the last part of the season and it is easier to play at home.”
The Buff’s next match is March 26, when they travel to Baton Rouge to face Louisiana State University for the first time since 1987.
