Women’s tennis finds success against Yale and Missouri
The CU women’s tennis team is starting to make up for lost time in a big way by sweeping two teams in the past week.
The Buffs (4-6 and 1-0 the in Big 12) swept Yale (3-4) on Tuesday, in their second of four home matches in eight days. It is shaping up to be a favorable run for the Buffs after they swept Missouri on Saturday as well.
It was the first time that the team squared off against Yale since 1981, but now the Buffs hold a 2-0 record in the series.
Coach Nicole Kenneally said the team’s success is the culmination of hard work.
“We’ve worked hard the last couple of weeks, and the girls have worked hard,” she said. “They realized what we want them to do, and now they’re reaping the success of their hard work.”
Their hard work will have to continue into the weekend as they continue Big 12 play against Kansas on Friday and Kansas State on Sunday.
Kenneally said the team is ready for those matches.
“We look forward to taking (Kansas and Kansas State) on, but right now we’ve got everyone healthy and everyone has been doing a great job,” she said.
Going into this weekend’s matches, the players said their morale is high. Kenneally said coming off three straight wins with solid play from all teammates gave the team the confidence they have been searching for.
“We really just needed to get into the win column,” Kenneally said. “I was hoping everything would take care of itself. (Everyone) realizes that they haven’t lost it,” Kenneally said.
Sophomore Melisa Esposito said the players share the same enthusiasm as they head into their next two home matches before hitting the road again for a three-game stretch.
“Things are going well,” Esposito said. “The team is continuing to work hard, and we are looking forward to our upcoming matches.”
