Buffs lose third in a row to Depaul
The Colorado tennis team is off to their first 0-3 start in school history, and they will not have a chance to get their first win for another week.
On Friday afternoon, the Buffs fell at home to DePaul. The Blue Demons did just enough to earn a 4-3 advantage and keep their untarnished season.
In the singles matches, Colorado’s Monica Milewski, ranked No. 38 nationally, easily trumped DePaul’s Dunja Antunovic in two straight sets: 6-1, 6-3.
That was not the case for the rest of the team. In the six different single-game matches, the Buffs and the Blue Demons split with three wins apiece.
The deciding factor of Friday’s bout loomed in the doubles’ court, where Colorado dropped two of three matches. Buffs Abbie Probert and Gleisy Torres Torres were the only pair to win 8-4.
CU returned eight letter-winners from last year’s NCAA tournament team, but they have started off the spring season 0-3.
The Buffaloes began the season ranked No. 38 in the country before losing in back-to-back matches to New Mexico and No. 16 Vanderbilt.
Now ranked No. 56, the loss against Depaul will only bring about another ranking hit.
Colorado will stay in Boulder to take on Northern Colorado on Feb. 6 and Denver on Feb. 9 in a quest to scoop up their first victory of the season.
