Resigning vice chancellor to be interim director of Alumni Association
Effective in February, exiting vice chancellor for student affairs Ron Stump will become the interim executive director of the CU Alumni Association.
Stump leaves his post after eleven years, nine of which as vice chancellor, to do something different. He said he has been thinking about doing something different for a while now, but the decision itself did not come of any sort of plan.
“It came up spontaneously,” Stump said.
As executive director of the Alumni Association, Stump will attempt to bring the university and its alumni together. He wants to listen to both sides to meet their collective interests.
“I want to identify a common goal,” Stump said.
The administration approached Stump about becoming the interim director to serve while they search for a new director. Stump will have no role in the search for his replacement. The search has yet to begin and there is no set timeline as of yet for Stump’s final departure from campus.
Stump is the second high-ranking official leaving his post this year, the first being CU system-wide president Hank Brown. CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard said there would be challenges but that change is the nature of any university.
“It’s a lot like an airport,” Hilliard said. “People come and go.”
Hilliard also said the university has great people in significant roles to deal with the upcoming challenges.
As for Stump, he said it was “too soon” to know what he will do after his time as interim director.
“I will remain open to all the opportunities that my way,” Stump said.
