Here’s the Campus Press sports section’s picks of the week:
Stirling Wade – Sports Editor – Overall: 19-13, Last Week: 2-6
(8) Kentucky 24, (11) South Carolina 21 – Andre Woodson has been unreal for Rich Brooks and Co.
(10) Oklahoma 27, (19) Texas 21 – Texas unranked? Better believe it.
(15) Virginia Tech 13, (22) Clemson 21 – Virginia Tech’s offense is bad.
(9) Florida 17, (1) LSU 26 – LSU’s defense is dominant, and that will prove to be the case on Saturday.
(4) Ohio State 16, (23) Purdue 20 – Purdue’s offense has been one of the best in the country, and I’m not sold on Ohio State as a true contender this season.
(25) Nebraska 27, (17) Missouri 31 – The Big 12 North continues to look better by the week. This match up could go a long way in determining who represents the division in the Big 12 Championship.
(20) Cincinnati 26, (21) Rutgers 23 – It seems like I say this every year, but teams that play pathetic non-conference schedules like Rutgers normally turn out to be overrated. That’s how Rutgers looks.
Colorado 30, Baylor 21 – Don’t think that Dan Hawkins is allowing his team to enjoy the Oklahoma victory all week. The Buffs will be ready.
Amanda Walck – Sports Writer – Overall: 13-19, Last Week: 1-7
(8) Kentucky 35, (11) South Carolina 31 – The Wildcats will record another win on their list of tough opponents.
(10) Oklahoma 31, (19) Texas 24 – Both teams are ready to prove themselves after losses last week, but I think Oklahoma has the edge.
(15) Virginia Tech 17, (22) Clemson 27 – Let’s hope Clemson learned their lesson from last week. Missing four field goals and allowing Cullen Harper to get sacked six times is not how you win a football game.
(9) Florida 24, (1) LSU 28 – LSU is finally No. 1 and I think they plan to stay there.
(4) Ohio State 20, (23) Purdue 28 – In the battle of the undefeated, the underdogs will continue to rise in the rankings.
(25) Nebraska 24, (17) Missouri 30 – I like Missouri in this one. After all, Nebraska is barely holding on to a spot in the Top 25.
(20) Cincinnati 24, (21) Rutgers 21 – I’ll give this close one to Cincinnati.
Colorado 35, Baylor 17 – The Buffs will use their momentum from last week to keep improving their game.
Derek Schimmel – Sports Writer – Overall: 17-15, Last Week: 2-6
(8) Kentucky 21, (11) South Carolina 28 – Steve Spurrier has the best college-mind in the game. He’ll devise a way to stop Andre Woodson.
(10) Oklahoma 49, (19) Texas 21 – The Sooners will be playing with a chip on their shoulders after the upset of the year in Boulder. Their high-powered offense will return.
(15) Virginia Tech 10, (22) Clemson 7 – Neither team deserves the ranking they have. That being said, VT should quiet the crowd in Death Valley.
(9) Florida 10, (1) LSU 28 – Potentially the game of the year. Florida was brought back to life last week, and LSU will capitalize on that.
(4) Ohio State 28, (23) Purdue 13 – Top two teams in the Big 10. Ohio State has been consistent on both sides of the ball all season.
(25) Nebraska 24, (17) Missouri 21 – Who would’ve thought the Big 12 North would have such a meaningful game. Nebraska pulls the upset.
(20) Cincinnati 21, (21) Rutgers 42 – Ray Rice will take the ball out of Mike Teel’s hands and run all over Cinci’s defense.
Colorado 20, Baylor 0 – The Buffs’ defense will gain national recognition with its second shutout in three weeks.
Brad Cochi – Sports Writer – Overall: 17-15, Last Week: 1-7
Kentucky 28, (11) South Carolina 24 – The match-up between Kentucky’s offense and South Carolina’s defense will be the key in this upset.
(10) Oklahoma 35, (19) Texas 24 – Oklahoma will find their rhythm again on offense after last week’s loss to Colorado.
(15) Virginia Tech 19, (22) Clemson 24 – I’ll take Clemson by a handful in this one.
(9) Florida 21, (1) LSU 27 – LSU will show why they are ranked No. 1 this weekend against a good Florida team.
(4) Ohio State 28, (23) Purdue 21 – Purdue will give Ohio State a run for their money in this one, but they won’t be able to put up enough points on Ohio State’s defense.
(25) Nebraska 28, (17) Missouri 35 – Both teams have good offenses, but Missouri’s is a little better.
(20) Cincinnati 21, (21) Rutgers 24 – Cincinnati and Rutgers swap rankings at the end of this one.
Colorado 27, Baylor 17 – Colorado’s defense looked really good against Oklahoma. Combine that with their improved running game and they control the game against Baylor.
Margot Schneider – Sports Writer – Overall: 18-13, Last Week: 2-6
(8) Kentucky 27, (11) South Carolina 24 – Get that win in now Wildcats cause it’ll be your last for a while. And also, why in the world is Kentucky in the top ranks of the SEC?
(10) Oklahoma 31, (19) Texas 24 – Not going to happen.
(15) Virginia Tech 17, (22) Clemson 24 – So Hokies, No. 112 in the country in total offense. Impressive.
(9) Florida 13, (1) LSU 24 – No. 1 and staying there.
(4) Ohio State 27, (23) Purdue 24 – Purdue has a very intimidating offense, and for a good reason, but their defense won’t stand up to Ohio State’s own offense.
(25) Nebraska 34, (17) Missouri 28 – I don’t think Missouri’s defense is going to be up for this.
(20) Cincinnati 27, (21) Rutgers 21 – The Big East bores me to death.
Colorado 34, Baylor 17 – Remember homecoming last year? Well, the Buffs do.
