Attempted robbery ends with three-story fall
A burglar who allegedly broke into a Boulder apartment early Monday morning died after falling from a third floor balcony.
The man was identified by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office as James Timothy McNutt. McNutt allegedly scaled the Vistoso apartment complex, located on the 4500 block of Baseline Road, and broke into a sliding glass door on the third floor.
Police spokeswoman Julie Brooks said McNutt, 28, broke in between 2:15 and 2:20 a.m.
“The woman inside saw him come in and she screamed,” Brooks said.
Reports indicate McNutt immediately went back out onto the balcony after hearing the 57-year-old resident scream. McNutt plummeted to the ground from the third story after leaping from balcony to balcony.
McNutt was still breathing but was unconscious when police reported to the scene. He was pronounced dead Monday afternoon.
Brooks said the case is still under investigation and all the assumptions are “based on the evidence found at the scene.”
“When we arrived, we found him on the ground,” she said.
According to the coroner’s office, the cause of McNutt’s death was due to severe head injuries. The manner of death is still under investigation.
Jere Owens, the temporary manager at the Vistoso apartment complex, said that everything was getting back to normal.
“We’re fine,” Owens said. “Everyone’s fine”
