An attempted robbery occurred outside of the University Memorial Center on campus at the University of Colorado Boulder at approximately 11 p.m. last night, Wednesday, April 3.
The Daily Camera reported that the suspect, described as a middle-aged man wearing a dark blue or black hoodie, attempted to take a woman’s purse outside of the University Memorial Center at the northeast doors. The woman managed to escape, and the man fled the scene shortly thereafter.
According to CU Boulder Police Department (CUPD) spokesperson Scott Pribble, robbery is an uncommon occurrence on the CU Boulder campus.
“The biggest tips that we can provide are to be aware of your surroundings at all times,” Pribble said. “That means that you should not be constantly looking at your phone when walking. Also, you should show confidence by walking at a steady pace and avoid carrying a lot of items. That could make you look defenseless. Finally, walk with a friend and stay in well-lit areas.”
Any information about this incident may be referred to the CUPD at 303-492-6666, or can be reported anonymously to the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or nococrimestoppers.com.
