After a day of hard work on the slopes of Park City, Utah, the CU ski team has managed to put themselves into a 2nd place position at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships.
So far, they seem once again to be headed to the NCAA Championships.
No. 2 ranked Colorado has 434.5 points so far in competition, putting them behind No. 3 Utah (447 points) and ahead of No. 1 Vermont.
This year, Colorado is looking to win its second straight title. If the Buffs are able to pull off a win in Utah, it would be their 11th RMISA title.
Junior Eliska Hajkova had an outstanding day, finishing first in the women’s 5 km freestyle with a time of 16:45.9.
Joanne Reid, a sophomore, finished second behind Hajkova with a time of 17:11.6. Senior Alexa Turzian barely missed a spot on the podium, posting a time of 17:42.1.
Sophomore Mary Rose finished 17th (19:08.5) and junior Katie Stege finished 27th (19:52.7).
In the women’s slalom, junior Carolina Nordh took the lead for the Buffs as she placed 4th with a time of 1:29.79. Sophomore Erika Ghent and junior Jennifer Allen trailed her, finishing in 8th (1:30.88) and 11th (1:31.50) respectively.
For the men’s 10 km race, junior Reid Pletcher placed 3rd with a time of 31:19.2. Senior Vegard Kjoelhamar finished 10th with a time of 32:12.8, with junior Ian Mallams finishing in 32:12.8 and senior Patrick Neel (32:16.7) placing behind Kjoelhamar in 11th and 12th, respectively.
Senior Gabriel Rivas tied for third with a time of 2:03.57 in the men’s giant slalom.
Junior Taggart Spenst placed 17th in 1:04.21. Freshman Fletcher McDonald finished 22nd with a time of 2:08.69, sophomore Max Lamb placed 24th (2:09.68) and freshman Andreas Haug finished in 27th (2:22.77).
Eric Davis and Sara Hjertman were unable to participate due to injuries.
Action on the slops resumes Saturday in Utah.
