Where to eat around Boulder

Sick of dorm food already? Check out these restaurants

Dorm food begins as a novelty. All-you-can-eat buffets beckon

students for three meals a day, every day, and it gets old quickly. Getting off campus provides good alternatives to dining when you just can’t stand food on campus.

There are more than 300 restaurants in Boulder, and many offer reasonable prices geared towards the student population.

The Hill

Close to campus, the Hill provides many different dining options from

subs and pizza to sushi.

For a weekend breakfast, forgo eating in the dorms and head to Burnt Toast, located at 1235 Pennsylvania Ave. This homey cafe in a 100-year-old house serves breakfast until 3 p.m. If you are in a rush, this is not the best place to go, as the servers work at a slow pace. The sunny dining room has antique wooden tables and mismatched

plates, bringing you back to memories of a home-cooked meal.

For a quick bite between classes, head to Half Fast Subs at 1215 13th St. With over 40 different subs, including extensive

vegetarian offerings, there is an option for everyone. Sit out on the

porch to enjoy a view of campus and the Flatirons. Service here is speedy, but the line can get long around lunchtime at this popular spot.

The Pearl Street Mall

To escape further from even the thought of dorm food, take the SKIP or HOP buses to Pearl Street. There are many different types of food, ranging from inexpensive to very pricey, but there is always somewhere to eat on a college budget.

Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, located at 1770 13th St., offers tea and a snack or a full meal. The teahouse is a gift from Boulder’s

sister city, Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and showcases intricate designs, including ceramic Islamic art and carved, painted ceilings.

For sushi, check out Hapa Sushi Grill & Sake Bar, located at 1117 Pearl St. The restaurant offers a contemporary take on

traditional sushi rolls. Options like the Multiple Orgasm Roll and Foreplay Roll cater to a college-aged crowd. This place is great for a group excursion.

South of Campus

If you live closer to the south side of campus, in Kittredge or Williams Village, making the trek to the Hill may seem too long.

Noodles & Company, located at 2850 Baseline Rd., offers a wide range of noodle dishes, from Wisconsin Mac and Cheese to Pad Thai. The menu extends from Asian, Mediterranean, and American dishes. All items are vegetarian, but meat or tofu can be added. The service is very friendly and provides high-quality food at a fast-food pace.
