The CU women’s golf team concluded the three-day Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the 6,379-yard UNC Finley Golf Course in 17th place. The team finished with a cumulative score of 930.
The first two rounds left the Buff women’s team in 17th place before Sunday’s final round. The team only had six scores of double bogey or worse, which is a large improvement from the last match. The third and final round was the team’s best score of the tournament, 307 (19-over).
After the first round, junior Jenny Coleman was in ninth place. After round two, she moved up two spots, placing her in a tie for seventh after another strong performance. So far it has been an impressive season for Coleman; she is averaging 72.0 strokes and is only seven-over par through 11 rounds. On day three, Coleman had a rough start and finished at seven-over 79, dropping her to 30th place. Her tournament total was 224 (72-73-79).
Freshman Allie Zech finished in a tie for 73rd place. Zech shot 80-81-79 (235) and was the leader for the Buff women for round three. Just one stroke behind was freshman Alexis Keating, who shot 80-75-81 (236) which placed her in a tie for 77th. Freshman Megan Haase shot 79-83-76 (238) for a tie for 82nd, and junior Kristin Coleman shot 80-84-78 (242) finishing in a tie for 89th.
Winning the tournament was the home team, the University of North Carolina. UNC shot just three-under par 291 for a total score of 872.
For individual play, the University of Florida’s Isabelle Lendl claimed the honors with a six-under par (210). Three strokes behind was Baylor’s Hayley Davis (213), who was the leader through the first two rounds. The University of Virginia’s Brittany Altomare took third with a score of 214.
The fall season for the lady Buffs golf team will end Oct. 28-30 at the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
