CUPD arrested a young woman driving under the influence on campus Thursday night, after hitting another vehicle and failing to comply with police.

According to a CUPD news release, Nicole Bau, an 18-year-old resident of Boulder, was arrested on a Class 4 felony charge of vehicular eluding with bodily injury, obstructing a peace officer, driving a vehicle while under the influence, driving a vehicle with excessive alcohol, driving without a license, and leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries – all misdemeanors. Police have confirmed that Bau is not a CU student.

A sheriff’s deputy, while directing traffic after an event at Coors Events Center, noticed a black Honda Civic displaying signs of erratic driving at Kittredge Loop Drive at 10:18 p.m. Thursday night. When the deputy approached the vehicle, it accelerated away from the deputy even after he yelled “Stop”.

An officer from CUPD followed the Honda, the driver accelerating further at speeds of up to 35 to 40 mph in a 10 mph zone that has heavy pedestrian traffic. Bau, the driver of the vehicle, struck a Ford Expedition head-on close to 2400 Kittredge Loop. She immediately exited the vehicle and ran away as officers approached the scene. Officers eventually caught up with Bau after yelling for her to stop running, and she resisted arrest.

Bau was arrested for driving under the influence after she complied to perform roadside maneuvers. She was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for minor injuries along with the 19-year-old Boulder resident passenger in her vehicle.
