Only a day after the position lost its representative, the search for the next women’s basketball head begins with the formation of a search committee.
CU athletic director Mike Bohn announced on Tuesday the creation of a seven-person committee headed by former CU women’s basketball head coach Ceal Barry.
After her retirement in 2005, Barry continued working with CU athletics, currently serving as the school’s associate athletic director for student services.
The most successful coach in Colorado sports history, Barry coached the Buffs to 427 victories during her 22-year tenure as head coach.
And that’s just the beginning.
Her resume includes 12 NCAA tournament appearances, six trips to the Sweet 16, three to the Elite Eight, four Big Eight Coach of the Year honors and the 1994 National Coach of the Year honor. She led the women’s squad who won the first ever Big 12 Tournament in 1997.
David Clough, chemical and biological engineering professor and faculty athletic representative to the Big 12, joins Barry in the committee, in addition to Tom McGrath, senior associate athletic director; Julie Manning, associate athletic director for compliance; Kris Livingston, director of academic services for athletics; Leila Almahdy, associate athletic trainer; and Andy Horowitz of CU’s Human Resources department.
