How would I define myself? There are so many experiences in my life that make me different. I’m an atheist, I’m low-income, I come from a town with more cows than people, I spent a semester in Italy, I’m overweight and I have seven siblings (five adopted).

I can still remember the first time I landed in Denver International Airport at the ripe old age of 8. I stepped off the plane clutching a blanket and my mother’s hand with eyes filled with adventure. Several men in cowboy hats pointed us to the baggage claim where I stared at those tall mountains in the distance.

Arriving home from my summer job, the familiar sound of quick movements from the joystick of a game controller met my ears. Listening harder, I could also make out the faint noise of gunfire and explosions from the television in my housemate’s bedroom. “A little to your right, Bear,” he said through his headphones to his online partner who was called Bear for a reason I will never know.

Video games aren’t the devil. They aren’t little demons that steal people’s lives. Though some people have related increases in violence to video games, most of us don’t get affected like that. Most of us gamers have lives outside the video game. Video games give a sense of community.

With the race for the Democratic nomination heating up between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the rhetoric between the two sides is escalating as well. It seems that every other day new dirt about one or the other is unveiled, leading to the usual media hoopla and back-and-forths between the candidates.

We have an epidemic at CU. This disease is infecting the brains of countless women, costing their families thousands of dollars, and turning them into an army of mindless drones. Scared yet? You should be. Ugg boots, gigantic sunglasses, black spandex: fashion trend, or man-made disaster? Now don’t call me sexist, because the male population is guilty of this as well.

Since the 1970s, same-sex couples have strived for marriage licenses.
The nation has asked the Supreme Court to decide. So far, gay marriage is only legal in one state. Over the next few years, state courts will be forced to give an answer. The decision will be an indicator of either progress for minorities or conservation of tradition. For some, it will be a matter of where America stands morally.

There are only two meal plan options for freshmen at CU: the 19-meal plan or the 15-meal plan. Each plan is $2169 per semester. With the 19-meal plan you get 19 meals per week and $150 in Munch Money (to be used at any convenience store on campus), and the 15-meal plan allows for 15 meals per week and $200 in Munch Money.

The one consolation for sitting in a classroom until 11 p.m. putting together the school newspaper was the free food. Every night of layout week – the week from hell when articles and photographs and headlines and cutlines were all shoved into place – we would order out for food to fuel the arduous task of completing the paper.

I remember the gruesome mornings I spent trudging down the halls of Kent Middle School, reminding myself that my battle of fitting in was nothing out of the ordinary. There were cliques, there were nasty girls who were out to make you feel awful about yourself, and there were boys who made you nervous as hell to talk to but you craved their attention just the same.
