A man is in custody after an attempted sexual assault was interrupted by a good Samaritan early this morning, according to a release from the CU-Boulder Police Department.
CUPD arrested Andrew Bryant Souser on suspicion of sexual assault and attempting to influence a public official, police said.
Around 2 a.m., police said, officers responded to a reported sexual assault near the Engineering Center. A female CU student told police a man in his mid-20s who appeared to be a transient followed her to campus from The Hill.
When she reached the Engineering Center, the suspect sexually assaulted her, according to police, and she screamed when the suspect said he was going to rape her.
A man heard the scream and interrupted the attack, and the suspect fled the scene, the release said.
During CUPD’s search for the suspect, another female told officers she had been approached near the UMC by a male who made sexually suggestive comments and attempted to touch her. She gave a similar description as the original victim.
According to the release, police contacted Souser near the UMC and he gave a false name. He was then arrested for the original assault.
CUPD believe Souser was acting alone. Anyone with information on the good samaritan or other witnesses/victims can contact Det. Sgt. Steve Cowles at 303-492-2112.
