Buff golfers are looking towards next fall to attain glory and overshadow an unwanted low finish this season.
On Tuesday, the CU men’s golf team finished 15th on the final day of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. It was the team’s final rounds of the fall season.
No. 10 University of California won the overall tournament title, holding off No. 15 San Diego State’s late run. The Bears ended the day scoring 804, or 48-under par, while the Aztec finished only two strokes back.
The Buffs shot a 2-over 286 for the day, and finished with a three-day score of 860.
Junior Kevin Kring lead the way for the Colorado, scoring 70 for the third round and a 210 overall score to secure 29th place individually. Tuesday’s performance gave Kring the outright national lead in fewest holes of triple bogey or less.
Sophomore Derek Fribbs finished the tournament with a 5-over 212 after shooting 68 on Tuesday’s round. He shot five birdies and just two bogeys on the day, after struggling during Monday’s rounds.
Junior Sebastian Heisele ended the tournament tied for 57th with a 217. His 12 pars and five bogeys and single birdie game him a 75 for the day, while senior Luke Symons shot his third 73 of the tournament, which was good enough for 64th overall. Symons’ Tuesday round included five birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey.
Redshirt freshman Brennan Dolan completed the Buffs scoring with an 8-over 79, finishing the tournament tied for 75th with a 225 for three rounds. Despite two birdies on the first six holes, he dropped six bogeys and a double to finish out the day.
Colorado will take a break until their spring campaign beginning on the first week in February, where they will participate in the Mauna Lani Invitational on Hawaii’s Big Island.
