The Social Network is getting praise as one of the best-reviewed movies of the year.
What makes this movie so good? Though Jesse Eisenberg convincingly plays the socially inept and emotionally stoic Mark Zuckerberg, good acting cannot be the only reason for why this movie has been so critically acclaimed.
Perhaps it was the witty and seemingly unforgettable lines of dialogue. Or, it couldve been the instantly-relatable subject of how many CU students’ favorite website was created.
Most students said they use Facebook to catch up with their friends, stalk exes and essentially pass the time.
I’d say I check it somewhere in between three to 100,000 times a day, depending on how boring my classes are, said Benjamin Rote, a 21-year-old junior English major.
With the huge prevalence of Facebook in students’ lives, it would seem that many would want to watch a movie about this breakthrough in social media and how it came to be, but that is not the case.
That wouldnt be a reason why Id want to watch it, said Gabbie Lee, a 19-year-old sophomore accounting major.
The movie seems to be one that students will see in the near future rather than an immediate necessity.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, with the exception of the girl in my class who said that it wasn’t as funny as she thought it would be, Rote said. Needless to say, I quit listening to her.
Even students who saw the movie said they felt no difference in their attitudes towards Facebook.
It was hard for me to relate [Mark Zuckerbergs] life with the product that I dont really use now, said Theodore Chavez, a 19-year-old sophomore finance major.
Whether the film has sprouted an interest in Facebook among the CU community is debatable. What one cannot debate, however, is the strong presence that this social network has in their lives.
