The Buff Bus circles Colorado Avenue, freshmen study their campus maps and the lines at the CU Book Store zigzag across the aisles.
Ah yes, the new school year is in session.
Before CU students buckle down and hit the books, they took the time to reflect back on their summer memories.
Nick Zinner, a 22-year-old aerospace engineering major, said he spent June building houses in Kenya.
“I basically went to old maternity wards and cleaned them up so they were good to use for another school or something else,” Zinner said.
Other students, however, stayed closer to home during the break and fit in their summer adventures between days at work.
“I mostly worked at my neighborhood pool…but I went to San Diego for a few days,” said Kyle Dack, a 19-year-old MCD biology major.
Brian Jacobsmeyer, a 21-year-old physics major, said that when he wasn’t working on campus he was enjoying the Colorado outdoors.
“I stayed in state and went camping and backpacking,” Jacobsmeyer said.
While students said they will miss the relaxing summer days, some students like Carly Foreman, a 22-year-old audiology major, said they are happily welcoming back the structured school days.
“It’ll be nice to be back in a nice routine, an academic routine,” Foreman said.
For Jacobsmeyer, the new school year strikes a sentimental chord.
“Classes should be fun, but it’s my last year so it’s also going to be bittersweet,” he said.
Other students said they are excited to be back for more social reasons.
“I liked not having class,” said Colleen Coleman, an 18-year-old pre-health major. “[But] I’m looking forward to meeting people.”
Dack said he is excited to reconnect with friends.
“I liked being able to relax, but I’m glad to be back in Boulder,” Dack said. “There’s more to do here and I get to see everyone.”
