The Boulder Police Department is currently investigating a third degree assault, according to Boulder Police Public Information Officer Sarah Huntley.
At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday near the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, three men reportedly jumped an 18-year-old CU student, Huntley said.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was headbutted in the face and shortly lost consciousness. Huntley said a friend found the victim on Pennsylvania Avenue soon after the assault.
“A friend driving by then saw him walking, saw that he was bleeding, and then took him to the hospital,” Huntley said.
She said the report indicated the victim had a swollen nose and that he was treated and released from the hospital.
Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the case, she said.
“The victim told us he had been drinking earlier,” Huntley said.
There are currently no suspects and no other descriptions to identify suspects, she said.
Despite the assault, the Boulder Police Department does not plan to tighten security on the Hill, she said.
“Not at this point,” Huntley said. “There is no indication to a larger trend of assaults. We get a lot of assault reports over the weekend and this weekend was no different. We are happy that the victim wasn’t more seriously injured.”
