The suspect of a stabbing that occurred at McGuckin’s Hardware Store has been identified as 44-year-old Daniel Wesley Brewer, according to a Boulder Police Department news release.
A loss prevention specialist at the store Thursday afternoon noticed Brewer attempting to leave with unpaid items around 5:40 p.m., according to the news release. When he confronted Brewer, Brewer pepper sprayed him and cut him with a knife.
Brewer fled the scene and the victim and another employee chased after him. They called 9-1-1 operators with their location, and Brewer was apprehended on 28th street by police. While handcuffing Brewer, police discovered he too had an injury consistent with a knife, according to the news release.
It is believed Brewer may have sustained his injury after he was told by police to get down on the ground, according to the news release. Officers recovered a can of mace and a pocketknife from him.
According to the news release, both the Brewer and the loss prevention specialist have been treated for non life-threatening injuries at Boulder Community Hospital.
