Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball junior forward Marcus Relphorde is co-Big 12/Phillips 66 Rookie of the Week for games from Jan. 11 – 17.
Relphorde, who was awarded the honor Monday, is the first Colorado player to earn the award since former Buff Richard Roby was named rookie of the week on Dec. 27, 2004.
The junior college transfer from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa was a major factor in both of CU’s games versus Top 25 opponents. First, Relphorde had 17 points and seven rebounds in Colorado’s 78-71 victory over No. 22 Baylor last Tuesday. Then, he put up 18 points with three boards in the Buffs’ 87-81 loss to No. 12 Kansas State on Saturday.
Relphorde averaged 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds for the week and shot an impressive 57.9 percent from the field.
Through CU’s first three Big 12 Conference games, Relphorde is second on the team in scoring at 19.7 points per game, rebounding with five boards per game, and in field goal percentage, making 59.4 percent of his shots.
Relphorde shared the award with Iowa State’s Marcus Gilstrap.
The junior will look to keep his impressive play going when the Buffs meet the Oklahoma State Cowboys at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Stillwater, Okla.
