The Foundry will be closing its doors for the last time this weekend.
Sam Blundell, general manager at the Foundry, said that the bar will be open for its last night on Nov. 7, the same day as the Texas A&M football game.
The bar and nightclub has been open on Walnut Street in downtown Boulder since 1996, Blundell said.
Matt Byrne was with the Foundry from 1999 to 2008 as a general manager and later as a co-owner.
“It was a great bar; it had a great run,” Byrne said. “We had a lot of fun with it, I’m just sorry to see it go.”
None of the current owners were immediately available for comment.
Describing the Foundry as “the largest straight bar Boulder,” which adds to numerous costs, Blundell attributed the close to a problem with sales.
“It’s been a bad summer for sales,” Blundell said. “We just can’t afford to cover costs.”
Nonetheless, Blundell was optimistic about the future of the location.
“Six months from now if there’s not a thriving bar down here, I’d be surprised,” Blundell said.
