According to the Boulder County coroner’s office, the moped driver killed in a traffic accident Monday afternoon has been identified as Carl Frank Welter, 46.
The accident ocurred at about 4:21 p.m. Monday, Oct 12, just south of the intersection of Broadway and Baseline, according to a Boulder police press release. Welter turned across Broadway towards the entrance of the Basemar shopping center and into the path of a northbound green Volkswagen sedan.
As of about 6:30 p.m., Oct 12, police were still seen investigating the accident, a job which the press release warned would take several hours. All northbound lanes of Broadway from 27th Street to just north of Baseline were closed for the investigation later reopened.
Boulder Police Spokeswoman Laurie Ogden said that police believe that Welter was not a CU student, and his name does not appear on the CU website.
“To the best of our knowledge the victim had no affiliation with CU, nor did the driver,” Ogden said.
The 29-year-old female driver of the sedan is not injured.
