The Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team can count their skid on one hand now.
The Buffs lost their fifth straight game — all in Big 12 Conference play — as they fell in four sets to the Kansas Jayhawks, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 19-25, on Wednesday at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. CU dropped to 5-9 overall and remain winless in the Big 12 while Kansas improved to 9-4, 2-2 in the Big 12.
“Continual improvement is the mark for this season,” said CU head coach Liz Kritza in a news release. “We will remain focused on getting the best possible performance we can so we can meet that goal, and we will begin experiencing the rewards of a lot of hard work.”
One sign of improvement was the team finally winning a set in conference play. Unfortunately, it didn’t result in a team win thanks to Kansas’ closing burst.
Trailing 21-18 in each of the last two sets, the Jayhawks notched four of the final five points both times to take the match.
Freshman outside hitter Kerra Schroeder had a career-high 13 kills to lead the Buffs. Sophomore outside hitter Rosie Steinhaus also spiked 13 kills, one short of her career-high.
CU will return home to face the No. 19 Baylor Bears at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Coors Events Center.
