Daring students who want to practice their dodgeball skills can take the sport to a whole new level at the indoor trampoline playground Jump-Street.
Located in Thornton, Jump-Street’s 30,000 square-foot warehouse has 100 trampolines. The facility includes a sizeable trampoline dodgeball court overflowing with multicolored spongy dodgeballs and another multi-use court reserved for private parties and busy operating hours.
Talented players who wish to showcase their skills of dodging, dipping and diving can participate in Jump-Street’s weekly dodgeball tournament. The competition takes place every Wednesday at 7 p.m. and costs $10 per person.
There is no limit to the size of a dodgeball team, but Desi Garcia, a manager of Jump-Street, suggests creating a team of at least four people for a fair and competitive game.
Although the size of each tournament varies, approximately 24 to 30 guests participate weekly to compete for the first place prize of free one-hour jump passes. Second place team members also have a small incentive.
“The second place team gets a free drink of choice. We have Gatorade, soda and energy drinks to choose from,” Garcia said.
However, most participants are interested in more than the incentives for winning.
Player Dain Barber, a freshman at the Community College of Denver, goes to Jump-Street to “get a workout and a rush from playing.”
Others play to meet friends and occupy their time.
“It’s a fun way to meet cool people and a good place to come when you have nothing else to do,” said Cooper Snook, an aviation technology major at Metropolitan State College.
For people who want to try activities other than dodgeball, there are several other options.
The warehouse also includes arcade games, an indoor infield, an indoor soccer field, batting cages and another large jumping arena with wall-to-wall trampolines.
Snowboarders who want to practice flips and spins can rent foam snowboard-shaped boards called “bounce boards” for $8.00 per hour.
“It’s a good practice for snowboarding,” said Lauren Molieri, a junior English major at Colorado Christian University. “It’s also a better workout than going to the gym because it’s a lot more fun and more interactive.”
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday’s jumping sessions are promotionally priced to encourage jumpers.
“We have ‘Monday Madness’ where you can jump for $8.00 per hour and ’10 Buck Tuesday and Thursday’ where you can jump for $10.00 for two hours,” said Jeremy Hanson, a senior aerospace engineering sciences major and a manager at Jump-Street.
Jump sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays also have a reduced price of $6.00 per hour.
The warehouse is open for jumping from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
