There is still time to do summer activities
Just because school has officially started it does not mean that summer has ended altogether. While the onset of classes has indeed begun filling schedules with reading assignments and other responsibilities, the beautiful, cloudless weather of summer still remains.
Despite the chaos of a new school year, it is important to keep the feeling of summer alive and cherish the weather while we have it.
Here are a couple of ways to keep summer alive for as long as possible.
1. Throw a disc.
Frisbee is a great game. Frisbee only requires a large field, a couple of friends and a plastic disc. Oh and maybe a little of the fabulous Colorado weather.
“Nothing makes me think of summer like taking a Frisbee out to the park and throwing it as far as I can, until it is too dark to see,” said Stanford Alum and Boulder native, Nicolai Schlag.
2. Bask in the rays
Although it is beginning to feel a bit like fall, it certainly does not look like it. As long as the sun is still shining and it is hot as heck, it is completely reasonable to be caught getting a tan.
Nothing feels more like summer than lying out and bathing in the sun.
“I love to lay outside, catch some rays and forget all about school,” said CU mechanical engineer major Alex Chu. “If I didn’t tan, I would just be tall and handsome.
3. Throw a Barbecue
After all that Frisbee and laying out, it is time for a good old-fashioned barbecue. The key to basking in the summer season is to be outside, enjoying the last of the warm weather every second- and that includes dinnertime.
“I just love barbecues. Good food, good people and good music,” said Marisa Dabice, a junior international studies major. “Whoever has the first barbecue starts the summer, whoever has the last BBQ ends the summer, so the barbecues better keep coming!”
4. Play in the Park
Boulder is home to a variety of parks. Scott Carpenter Park is one example, and it has a lot to offer in terms of summertime activities.
Besides the playground that could bring back the carefree feelings of being a kid, there is also the Boulder Creek nearby, which is excellent for tubing this time of year.
Regardless if one wants to go on a run, a walk or a bicycle ride, the park is a great place to capture the feeling of summer.
5. Go to the market
The Boulder Farmers Market, located on 13th street, between Canyon and Arapahoe, is a great place to buy fresh and locally grown and produced vegetables, fruits, flowers and more. There is everything from local wine to soaps!
“I go to the Farmers Market every Saturday,” said Kelsi Coia, a senior geography major. “They have the best peaches right now.”
The Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Farmers Market is a great way to enjoy the products of the summer season. The Wednesday Farmers Market will be open until Oct. 1, and the Saturday Farmers Market will be open until Nov. 1.
There are many ways to keep the feeling of summer alive, and they are start with getting outside and celebrating this good Colorado weather!
