Where are your favorite celebrities now?
Everyone has a favorite star that they idolized on television when they grew up.
Although fans always keep their favorite actors as frozen images from when they were younger, time does go by, and these lovable stars have changed over the years.
Kristin Davis, one of the stars of Sex and the City was born in Boulder, Colorado and was a big star in the 1990s.
Davis had a steady role on the daytime soap General Hospital, and in 1995, Davis starred in the made-for-TV movie “Alien Nation: Body and Soul.” She also appeared in an episode of “ER” as well as the Hugh Grant film “Nine Months.”
The same year, Davis joined the cast of the popular soap “Melrose Place,” the show all about lying, cheating, betrayal, relationships and murder, as the rich girl Brooke Campbell.
Luckily for Davis, the creator of Melrose Place was Darren Star, who eventually helped bring Candace Bushnell’s novel, “Sex and the City,” to the small screen on HBO, taking Davis along with him.
One of Davis’s co-stars on “Melrose Place,” Marcia Cross, was also a well-known star in the 90s, and has continued her fame with the hit show “Desperate Housewives.”
Cross was on “Melrose Place” from 1992 to 1997 for six seasons playing Dr. Kimberly Shaw. She also appeared on other shows such as “Boy Meets World,” “Murder she Wrote” and “Seinfeld.”
Now, Cross is on “Desperate Housewives” as one of the women on Wisteria Lane that always tries to maintain the perfect image even when everything is falling apart around her. Cross has been nominated for three Golden Globes and one Emmy.
Kaylah Braun, a freshman political science major, said she thinks that it is hard for the stars of the 90s to make comebacks, but if they were successful then, they can launch off that now.
“It’s harder for them to continue their popularity because they peaked in the 90s,” Braun said. “I also think their stardom from the 90s helps them now.”
“Full House,” an extremely popular show of the 1990s that ran for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995, gave many actors there big breaks, including twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
However, one of the cast members, Jodie Sweetin, who played innocent young Stephanie Tanner beginning at the age of five, did not live the life she played on television.
Sweetin said she wanted to live a normal life, so she went to high school and college and got married at age 20 to a police officer. Soon after, she became addicted to methamphetamines. According to abcnews.com, she said she was unemployed and bored and began simply by experimenting.
Soon, she said she was using meth every day.
Sweetin told abc.com that being in the spotlight for a part of her life made her grow up a lot faster, and had its drawbacks.
According to abcnews.com, Sweetin had an intervention staged by her “Full House” cast mates, including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, John Stamos and Bob Saget.
Later, she checked herself into Promises drug rehab facility where she went for six weeks of treatment.
Lynsey Dreis, a freshman environmental design major, said she believes that growing up in the spotlight in Hollywood was what contributed to Sweetin’s downfall.
“I think the media does a lot to movie stars,” Dreis said. “There are examples of other celebrities who have gone downhill, such as Lindsay Lohan. I don’t think it has to do with her acting, but the scene she grew up in.”
Now, Sweetin is 26 years old and sober. She recently had her first baby girl on April 12 with husband, set designer Cody Herpin, according to people.com.
Two other 90s stars, Tia and Tamera Mowry, who played twins separated at birth who by chance meet each other at a shopping mall in the show “Sister Sister,” are still in the public eye.
They are both 29 years old, and Tia is a star of “The Game” on the CW network. She recently wed actor Cory Hardrict at the Biltmore, a Four Seasons resort, in front of 170 of their closest family and friends, according to people.com.
She and Tamera are co-starring in the upcoming movie, “Hollywood Horror.”
Ashley Cannon, a sophomore psychology major, said she thinks that because these twins had the wholesome image, it may be hard for them to succeed in the new entertainment industry.
“I think they were more wholesome then, but trying to peak out in today’s industry might be more difficult because of our previous views on them,” Cannon said.
Calista Flockhart, the star of the 90s television show “Ally McBeal,” played a lawyer struggling with her love life. Flockhart is now the star of “Brothers and Sisters,” and is engaged to Harrison Ford. The two adopted a son, Liam.
These stars were idols in the 90s and have continued their fame, breaking away from the old characters they became famous for playing.
