Grand Theft Auto IV brings in Karl Lagerfeld
The Grand Theft Auto games are known for offering hours of gameplay filled with violent fun.
The newest installment in the series, “Grand Theft Auto IV,” arrives in stores on April 29 and contains a few new surprises.
The maker of GTA IV, Rockstar Games is introducing a pop culture icon who will be a DJ on one of the radio stations in the game.
Karl Lagerfeld will play DJ Karl, a host and personality in the game. According to Styledash.com, Not only is Lagerfeld offering his voice for GTA IV, he is also responsible for picking the songs that will play on the radio station, most of which will be dance music.
The official Web site for GTA IV states, “Join DJ Karl on a journey back to the heyday of Liberty City when disco never died and electronic music was born.”
For the gamers who love GTA but not too knowledgeable about fashion, Karl Lagerfeld is one of this generation’s biggest names in fashion. Lagerfeld is known for his work with Chanel, Chloé and Fendi.
However, some students do know who Lagerfeld is, and some said they are not happy he is in the game.
“I normally don’t listen to the radio stations when I play, but if I was in the mood, I may listen to his station,” said Jon Meador, 21, a junior computer science junior. “I find (Lagerfeld) annoying.”
Even though some students may not like the fact that Lagerfeld is in the game, it is unlikely to hurt sales. In an article for Variety.com, Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes said GTA IV is likely to outsell the Xbox 360 game “Halo 3.”
“Think $400 million for the first week, a record for vidgames and possibly the biggest debut ever for an entertainment product,” said Ben Fritz in “‘Grand’ videogame breaks record” on Variety.com.
The game will be on sale for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $59.99 on Amazon, while the GTA IV Special Edition will be sold for $89.99.
While this video game is unveiling more surprises as its release date approaches, fans can only hope it lives up to the hype.
