Chilly conditions in store for first week after Spring Break
Forget April Fools’ Day, winter weather conditions are no joke for the second week of spring.
Light, isolated showers and strong winds will return Monday afternoon, followed by partly cloudy skies and low temperatures Tuesday. Tuesday’s high will be 47 degrees but the wind chill will make it feel only as warm as the low 30s most of the day.
Wednesday will be warmer with a high of 60 degrees and partly cloudy skies, followed by returning rain showers and possible snow overnight Thursday.
Chilly conditions this time of year are no surprise to students that are Colorado natives.
According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature this time of year for Colorado is usually around 50 degrees. The average low for April is 35 degrees and the typical high is in the low 60s.
One student said he agrees that warm conditions should not always be expected for the beginning of spring.
“It’s still pretty cold this time of year and it’s the wind that makes it worse,” said Kevin O’Hara, an open option freshman who grew up in Colorado. “The wind hasn’t stopped yet, and it won’t be warm until it does,” he said.
Besides occasional low temperatures, springtime conditions in the area can also mean an increased chance for thunderstorms and lightning. The average precipitation in April is near 3 inches.
Phil Irwin, a freshman business major who hails from Southern California, has a more positive outlook on the weather.
“If nothing else, we at least know that the weather only gets better from here,” Irwin said.
