Arrest of Riar Geer unrelated to charges against Lynn Katoa
Boulder police arrested another CU football player on assault charges Friday night.
First-string tight end Riar Geer became the second CU football player to be arrested Friday after freshman linebacker Lynn Katoa was arrested Friday afternoon. The arrests were unrelated.
According to police, 21-year-old Geer allegedly assaulted two victims outside a party Friday night.
Geer is a junior history and pre-communication major at CU.
Police responded to the area of 18th and Cascade at 11:52 p.m. on report of a man who had been hit in the face. When police arrived, they found two 19-year-old victims bleeding at the mouth. Witnesses told police the suspect had approached them and knocked a hat off one of their friends’ heads. Witnesses said the fight turned violent after verbal arguments, resulting in the injury of freshman civil engineering major Hunter Wright and freshman management major Alexander Williams. The suspect and his friends left the scene, and the victims’ friend flagged down an officer for help.
Police made contact with Geer 15 minutes later at Regent Drive and Kittredge Loop Drive. Victims identified Geer as the man who had assaulted them. Geer had cuts above his eyebrow and on his hand.
In a statement released Saturday, CU Chancellor G.P. “Bud” Peterson addressed the recent string of alleged assaults by CU football players.
“We will not tolerate this type of behavior at CU – it is counter to the values of our student body,” the statement read.
The chancellor also expressed his support of head football coach Dan Hawkins and Athletic Director Mike Bohn and any actions they would take to confront the problems of violence.
Geer was booked into Boulder County Jail Friday night on suspicion of second-degree assault and harassment.
