2008 football season ticket sales up
With spring football fast approaching, the CU ticket office is already dealing with football ticket sales for the 2008 season.
“As of right now we have sold 250 new season ticket seats and 100 new club level season seats,”CU Athletic Director Mike Bohn said. “Right now we are dealing with people calling and wanting to be put on the waitlist.”
Bohn said the season ticket total for 2008 is going to be about 22,000 total seats in Folsom, which can hold 53,750. What many people do not know is that there is only a certain amount of space available for season ticket holders because of single-game attending fans.
Bohn said donations play a big role in getting off the waitlist and into a season ticket seat.
“The seating improvement plan is based on points,” Bohn said. “The better seats come with the more points you have. The points are based on donations that the person makes to the program and school.”
There are many things that can account for the sales growth of season tickets, but Bohn said there are three overriding factors.
“First is that we have a great head coach and assistants,” Bohn said. “Second is the off-field aspect. Dan (Hawkins) and the team are willing to engage with students and be involved with community outreach. Third is the schedule we have planned. We have a few marquis games such as West Virginia and Texas, which people want to see.”
With Boulder and CU in particular made up of people from all over, not just Colorado, the Buffs hope that they can become the team of the non-native residents.
“Colorado is really a melting pot of people,” Bohn said. “We want them to feel like Colorado is their team and invite them to be a part of the Buffs family. We want them to have pride in their local team and adopt the Buffs.”
Along with bringing in more fans to the games, season ticket sales go beyond putting bodies in seats. Bohn said the money that is associated with the sales can be used for the benefit of the fans.
“One of the things we would like to do is revamp the Flatirons Club,” Bohn said. “What we also want to do is get some video-board upgrades, get full lighting grids and overall infrastructure improvements. These would all be upgrades for the fans.”
With stadium upgrades and more fans in the stands of Folsom, the Buffs are ready to show both new and old Buff fans that they can compete with the best.
“The season ticket sales are great because it means we’re getting a big fan base back, and people are appreciating what we’re doing on the field,” Riar Geer, a junior tight end on the CU football team said. “It makes us want to do well so that they continue to support the program.”
Season tickets are currently on sale through the CU Ticket Office. To purchase 2008 football tickets call (303) 492-8337.
