The Buffs looked to get their first conference victory against rival Nebraska on Tuesday night at the Coors Events Center.
The Buffs won the tip-off, and senior guard Richard Roby went for a three from deep. While CU’s leading scorer missed the basket, the team did get back the rebound. However, they could not take advantage of the extra possession.
The Buffs quickly stopped the Huskers’ possession, and shortly into their own possession, Nebraska fouled CU. Off an in-bounds pass, Hall threw a quick pass to Roby, who made an easy shot from under the basket.
Colorado fouled Nebraska’s Sek Henry, and the sophomore guard made only one of his two baskets.
The Buffs ran out of time on the shot clock on their next possession, and NU hit a quick three to take their first lead of the game, 4-2.
After an easy Husker lay-up, the Buffs hit a three and Colorado went back up, 7-6.
TIME 15:10
CU came out of a timeout with a tight zone, and they kept Nebraska from scoring on the opening possession.
A few stingy defensive plays later, freshman guard Levi Knutson hit a three from the corner. Nebraska responded with a basket of their own and a quick steal on the return.
Hall went for a three from the same spot where Knutson had just landed one, but could not hit it.
NU’s 6-foot-11 senior center Aleks Maric hit an easy shot from under the basket and the Huskers gained back the lead.

Colorado came out of their timeout still unable to penetrate to the paint off the Husker’s tight man-to-man defense.

While CU kept Nebraska from a basket on their first attempt, they fouled sophomore Ryan Anderson on the next NU. He made both foul shots, putting the Huskers went up 15-10.
Although the Buffs were having trouble making shots, considering they shot nearly 70 percent in their previous game, they were also keeping Nebraska from scoring.
Cory Higgins made a three to bring it back to a one-possession game.
NU’s Anderson hit a three of his own to follow up, though, and NU led 18-13.
TIME 6:20
Colorado came out with a quick jumper by Hall. The Buffs kept Nebraska from scoring on their possession and then nearly penetrated inside. A quick pass out to Knutson, and the Buffs tied the game at 18.
The Buffs held off another Husker score, and Roby stepped up to the foul line. After making both his shots, the senior put the Buffs back in the lead with just over four minutes left, 20-18.
After grabbing the ball back again without a Nebraska basket, Colorado called their second timeout of the game.

Despite getting in the lane, the Buffs could not score coming out of their timeout. They held off another Nebraska scoring opportunity though.
Nebraska soon tied it up at 20. Knutson was fouled for the Husker’s sixth team foul.

Knutson hit both his fouls, and the Buffs took back a two-point lead with just over two minutes to go.
Coming inbounds after a Colorado foul, Nebraska hit a basket to tie up the game again. The Huskers quickly sent Roby back to the foul line for one point.
After a frantic Husker drive at the one-minute mark, Roby hit a jumper for CU. With the Buffs leading by three and just under 14 seconds left, Nebraska called a timeout.

Coming out of their timeout, the Huskers could not break free for a basket and ran out of time.

Second Half
Two minutes into the second half, the rivalry game had yet to find its spark.
Nebraska made two foul shots to tie the game up on two separate occasions, and Colorado had yet to get on the board.
Nebraska was fouled again on a breakaway, making one of two baskets to take the lead.
Higgins got inside though, and made an easy shot from under the basket. Xavier Silas was fouled after a short Husker possession, and made one of his shots. The Buffs got the rebound on his second shot, and Jermyl Jackson-Wilson was quickly fouled on his own shot attempt.
The junior missed both his baskets.
With three seconds left on the shot clock, Nebraska got open at the top of the key for an easy three and the lead.
Colorado came back with a field goal to take back the lead, 30-29.

After stopping a Nebraska possession, Hall scored a three to give Colorado a more dominating lead. One stop later, Higgins was fouled under the basket.
The freshman guard made both his shots to put CU up by five.
After a few unsuccessful CU drives, and a few successful Nebraska drives, the Huskers had tied it up.
Two Nebraska turnovers later, the Buffs were up 38-34.

Roby hit a three to give the Buffs the most dominating lead of the night, 41-34. NU’s Cookie Miller hit both his fouls on the other end to lessen that margin, however.
After a number of attempts, CU turned the ball over. The Huskers capitalized on a quick drive from the sideline to bring it back to a one-possession game.
The Huskers stole the ball, but before they could get the breakaway lay-up, Colorado committed its seventh foul of the half.

NU’s Paul Velander hit one of his two shots. King-Stockton failed to either of his on the other end, giving Nebraska had the opportunity to tie the game up.
The Buffs kept their lead with a tough defensive effort by King-Stockton before the Huskers sent Silas to the line.
Silas hit both his shots, and the Huskers hit two of their own on the other end.
TIME 6:20
Higgins sank another basket, giving him 13 points for the night.
The Buffs stopped Nebraska on the next play, and Jackson-Wilson hit a basket to put the Buffs up by seven, 48-41.
Time continued to tick away, but neither team could score.

King-Stockton hit one of his foul shots for the first points in around two minutes.
Nebraska hit a three in an effort to come back in the final two minutes of the game.

King-Stockton went back to the foul line for two more Buff points.
With 1:33 left in the game and down by seven, Nebraska called a timeout.
Timeout Nebraska
Coming out of their timeout, the Huskers pulled the Buff lead down to five. With 10 team fouls, however, their foul in backcourt sent Hall to the foul line.
Hall missed both his shots, and Nebraska followed up with a three.
Down to a one-possession game with Roby under heavy pressure, Colorado called a timeout with 48 seconds left.

Roby ran in from midcourt for a nearly uncontested lay-up. These two put him at 12 points for the night, but more importantly made it a two-possession game with 26 seconds left.
Nebraska ran 11 seconds off the clock, but cut the CU lead to two points.
Up 53-51 with 5.2 seconds left, Colorado called a timeout.

Nebraska did not waste any time fouling CU, but Silas made both his free throws. With just over four seconds left, the Huskers missed their last shot, giving CU the win.
