Many students choose personal fountains as the new hot item to decorate their study areas.
Marlene Zaleznick is the manager of retail operations at Decorasian. She is also knowledgeable in Feng Shui and assists customers in this field. Her store is filled with “Fine Things Asian” as it says on Zaleznick’s card.
“It’s been a very popular item with us,” Zaleznick said. “People do come in looking for fountains. It is one of the things we order more of in the store.”
Decorasion’s “water-bell” fountain is one of their most popular items.
“Today one water-bell fountain is coming in,” Zaleznick said. “People immediately go over to it. People are attracted to it. People like it and enjoy it. People find it brings peace and serenity in homes and offices.”
This fountain is also very positive in the world of Feng Shui.
“From a Feng Shui perspective it can circulate chi in the space,” Zaleznick said. “Fountains are good to put in the ‘wealth’ and ‘abundance’ area of the room.”
On this fountain one can adjust the sound of the bells (also referred to as chimes) that float in the water. One can adjust it to sound more like water or chimes.
Kaitlyn Sheehan, a sophomore anthropology major, has mixed feelings about fountains.
“I think fountains are very calming” she said. “Sometimes I feel like they make me pee. I suggest putting fountains in your office because it helps you concentrate unless you have drank a lot of water before.”
Sara Morse, a sophomore fine arts and studio arts major is a fan of fountains.
“I used to have a fountain in my backyard,” Morse said. “It became a home for dozens and dozens of frogs. My mom made the fountain, each tile was a different shade of blue. We got rid of it, though, because the frogs were too loud. Now we have a new one.”
“We usually have a supply on hand and fountains will be available for the holiday season,” said Zaleznick about people looking to purchase fountains.
