Dangerous driving conditions possible
Those taking off early for the weekend can expect winter driving conditions while heading west to the slopes and are advised to use extra caution.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect today, according to the National Weather Service.
Tonight there will be periods of snowfall with an 80 percent chance of precipitation with 1 to 3 inches of snowfall in Boulder. An initial inch of snowfall is predicted for Saturday.
Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility, especially invisible icy patches.
Students headed for Eldora, Keystone and Breckenridge will get heavy snow all weekend. Breckenridge is expected to receive up to eight inches over the next two days.
Copper mountain and Arapahoe Basin will also be popular this weekend as they each have about a foot of fresh snow, which will increase over the weekend.
Unpleasant weather conditions, such as freezing rains, may keep some from the slopes.
The forecast for Boulder County includes rain and snow all day Friday and snow throughout the weekend.
Weekend temperatures will be in the low teens and are expected to reach the upper 20s at the most throughout the weekend, but the snow should begin to taper off by Sunday evening.
The precipitation may come as a pleasant surprise to many after the recent dry and windy conditions.
