Chadwick to make health center more effective
Gary Chadwick was named the new Wardenburg director, vacating his position of Rec Center director.
Chadwick’s new title of assistant vice chancellor gives him the authority to oversee Wardenburg, the UMC and the Rec Center. He will oversee all three, but he will focus on Wardenburg and the changes he envisions for the health center.
“We’ve already started to make changes in management, organization and efficiency,” Chadwick said.
Some of the planned changes will be electronic medical records, new student insurance plans, more examination rooms and better use of funds.
Under Chadwick, Wardenburg will enhance its coverage for students. For everyone who has a student health package, Wardenburg will add more routine physicals. Maximum coverage has increased from $100,000 to $250,000, and prescription coverage has increased from $1,000 to $3,000.
Hearing exams will be covered, emergency room co-pay has decreased from $200 to $50 and the HPV vaccine is covered 100 percent.
The result of making Wardenburg more efficient means six employees have lost their jobs.
Since Chadwick is leaving his post as director of the Rec Center, Carlos Garcia, director of the UMC, heads up the committee that will find a replacement for Chadwick.
“I am hoping that we can get this started within the next couple of weeks,” Garcia said.
John Meyer, associate director of the Rec Center, said Chadwick has been a good boss at the Rec Center because he does not micromanage his staff, he listens the students and he is good at serving the students wishes.
“He has a servant’s heart,” Meyer said.
