Return to a childhood favorite
It’s the Disneyland of Mexican restaurants!
Or at least that is what “South Park” character Eric Cartman said during one episode when the boys visit the Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita in Lakewood.
The uniqueness of the restaurant is apparent upon arrival.
While the restaurant sits in a long strip mall of stores, it stands out with its 85-foot-tall pink tower capped with a 22-karat gold dome.
According to its Web site, the large fountain that sits outside was even shipped directly from Mexico.
The restaurant has been in business for over 30 years and offers enough entertainment to go with the food to make the drive a weekend-worthy activity.
According to their Web site, the restaurant is over 52,000 square feet and can seat 1,100 guests at a time.
There are over 30 attractions including two arcade rooms, games, prizes, cliff divers and Mexican dancers.
The restaurant has plenty to offer to students thinking about visiting.
“The sopaipillas are delicious,” waiter Charles Brown said. “The entertainment is why most people come. There is a haunted house, caricatures and two arcades.”
Students who like taking pictures with friends should also consider going to the restaurant.
There is a rope bridge that goes by a waterfall, a basement with a pretend prison and lots of artistic areas throughout the restaurant that can be great photo opportunities.
“The entertainment value is as good as the taco meat is bad,” Jake Smith, a former entertainer at Casa Bonita said.
With so much available entertainment, it is easy to forget that Casa Bonita is technically a restaurant with a relatively long menu.
The menu has plenty to offer such as an all-you-can-eat beef or chicken deluxe dinner, crispy tacos, beef or chicken enchiladas, Mexican rice, refried beans and more.
Added bonuses are the homemade sopaipillas with honey that come free with any meal purchased. The restaurant prides itself on its homemade sopaipillas more than its other menu options.
The restaurant is about 35 minutes away from Boulder, at 6715 W. Colfax in Lakewood.
