Here are the Campus Press sports section’s picks of the week:
Stirling Wade – Sports Editor – Overall: 28-20, Last Week: 4-4
(2) South Florida 30, Rutgers 27 – Ray Rice makes things interesting for Rutgers, but it won’t be enough against Matt Grothe and company.
(21) Tennessee 13, Alabama 10 – Alabama’s offense has struggled a bit lately. I’ll take the Vols.
Texas A&M 16, Nebraska 17 – This is a match-up of two teams whose coaches are in a ton of trouble. I think the fightin’ Callahans win one for their coach.
(15) Florida 35, (7) Kentucky 31 – That victory over LSU meant so much to the Wildcats, but I think it’s asking too much to beat Florida the following week.
(12) California 26, UCLA 21 – Where have you gone DeSean Jackson?
(24) Texas Tech 41, (16) Missouri 44 – The defenses shouldn’t even bother showing up.
(17) Auburn 13, (4) LSU 24 – LSU, particularly their defense, will bounce back.
(13) Kansas 24, Colorado 28 – This is the toughest game for me to pick all year. When I add it all up, I’m not sold on Kansas yet (check that schedule out), and I think Colorado is going to be amped up to erase last weekend’s brutal game in Manhattan.
Amanda Walck – Sports Writer – Overall: 21-27, Last Week: 3-5
(2) South Florida 28, Rutgers 21 – South Florida is the new No. 2. I’m sure that has a lot of people asking themselves how that one happened.
(21) Tennessee 20, Alabama 17 – We’ll see if Eric Ainge can maintain his accuracy against the Crimson Tide.
Texas A&M 31, Nebraska 35 – I’ll take the Cornhuskers at home. I bet their fans are feeling the need for revenge after last week.
(15) Florida 31, (7) Kentucky 28 – Kentucky is very talented, but I think they got really lucky last week. I also don’t think the Gators could bear to lose three in a row.
(12) California 35, UCLA 27 – Cal is another team that will be fighting to recover after another week of upsets.
(24) Texas Tech 38, (16) Missouri 42 – Missouri is looking more and more like the team to beat in the Big 12.
(17) Auburn 21, (4) LSU 24 – LSU really got the short end of the stick in that overtime upset. They will be more than ready for the Tigers.
(13) Kansas 28, Colorado 35 – I’m going to pick my Buffs for this one. Maybe family weekend will give the game a little magic.
Derek Schimmel – Sports Writer – Overall: 24-24, Last Week: 1-7
(2) South Florida 21, Rutgers 31 – Remember when West Virginia went into New Jersey last year on Thursday night?
(21) Tennessee 13, Alabama 24 – Seems like anytime a team in the SEC starts making a run, someone knocks them back down.
Texas A&M 21, Nebraska 14 – Should’ve been a Cornhuskers blowout. However, seeing as how Bill Callahan’s team is absolutely miserable, and the entire athletic department is in shambles, I’ll go with A&M.
(15) Florida 35, (7) Kentucky 24 – I don’t think magic can strike twice for the Wildcats. UF will take advantage of Kentucky’s over-confidence.
(12) California 42, UCLA 17 – Cal will get back on track against a banged-up Bruins team.
(24) Texas Tech 35, (16) Missouri 42 – A battle of two high-powered offenses. Mizzou takes it at home.
(17) Auburn 13, (4) LSU 28 – I don’t think LSU will lose another game all season, including the National Championship game.
(13) Kansas 24, Colorado 28 – As I said last week, the bar has been raised for the Buffs. Coach Hawkins will get his team back on track against the unlikely No. 13 team in the country, and the nation will yet again see a storm of yellow swallow Folsom Field.
Brad Cochi – Sports Writer – Overall: 25-23, Last Week: 3-5
(2) South Florida 30, Rutgers 24 – South Florida is excited to be in the No. 2 spot and will come out looking to prove that they deserve to be there.
(21) Tennessee 24, Alabama 17 – Tennessee has looked good in their three straight wins, they’ll expand the streak to four this week against Alabama.
Texas A&M 21, Nebraska 17 – Nebraska’s troubles continue this week with a close loss at home.
(15) Florida 31, (7) Kentucky 21 – Though Kentucky has shaken things up a bit lately, Florida will be determined not to let it happen again, not too them.
(12) California 31, UCLA 24 – This is a no-brainer after UCLA came out a laid an egg against Notre Dame last week.
(24) Texas Tech 35, (16) Missouri 42 – Missouri wins the shootout at home.
(17) Auburn 17, (4) LSU 31 – Seemingly for the first time all season LSU will be playing with something to prove, and that is scary. I feel bad for Auburn.
(13) Kansas 21, Colorado 28 – The Buffs will come back and win this one at home with good defense and some big runs from Hugh Charles.
Margot Schneider – Sports Writer – Overall: 26-22, Last Week: 3-5
(2) South Florida 24, Rutgers 31 – Why a team from the Big East has a top spot in BCS standings is beyond me.
(21) Tennessee 28, Alabama 20 – Hey SEC, only seven teams in the BCS standings? I expected more from you.
Texas A&M 20, Nebraska 17 – If I were Texas A&M, and I looked at my schedule for the rest of the season, I’d cry. So, here goes the last chance for a win.
(15) Florida 27, (7) Kentucky 24 – P.S. Three teams in the top 10? And Kentucky about to drop down? Come on.
(12) California 31, UCLA 28 – Well UCLA just lost to Notre Dame, so going by their pattern this season, they should win by something like 50 points. I just can’t pick them though.
(24) Texas Tech 41, (16) Missouri 48 – I second Stirling. I could not have said it better myself.
(17) Auburn 13, (4) LSU 24 – No. 1 LSU Tigers. One loss and they drop to No. 4 . absolutely ridiculous.
(13) Kansas 20, Colorado 24 – The Buffs took the loss to K-State harder than either of the other losses this season. They’ll bounce back with some of that Top 25 caliber perfection they showed against Oklahoma.
Guest Picker Luke Morin – Managing Editor – Overall: Undefeated
(2) South Florida 20, Rutgers 33 – Wait, is this the top 25 or the bottom 25? C’mon, this madness must end.
(21) Tennessee 20, Alabama 26 – Oh rocky top, you’ll always be…a substandard team. The Vols have seen better days. Roll Tide roll, back into the top 25 where you belong.
Texas A&M 10, Nebraska 24 – All that midnight yell practice doesn’t do much when you’re on the road, especially in the stadium that transforms into Nebraska’s third largest city on game day. Nebraska will be feeling the heat — it’s do or die in Lincoln.
(15) Florida 20, (7) Kentucky 21 – Top 10 ranking combined with surprise pregame locker room visit from Ashley Judd inspires ‘Cats to a big win. And have you ever seen a tougher three game road stretch than Florida’s current one?
(12) California 35, UCLA 21 – I guess someone had to lose to Notre Dame. UCLA’s only shot in this one is to start praying to Touchdown Jesus.
(24) Texas Tech 55, (16) Missouri 45 – The Mizzou parade is done, right after these teams combine for 1100 yards and 100 points.
(17) Auburn 10, (4) LSU 27 – After gorging themselves on cajun food at a tailgate, the Tigers might be a bit slow out of the gate. Not to worry though, they’ll trash this Auburn team like the bbq corn stuck in their teeth.
(13) Kansas 6, Colorado 35 – Are ya kiddin me? While these Buffs couldn’t beat a sack of potatoes on the road, Kansas might be the most overrated No. 13 ever. Todd Reesing, meet Jordon Dizon. Hope y’all get acquainted, we’ll see you Monday when you regain consciousness.
