Olive-oil-themed eatery recently opened in Boulder
Students often could use a new place to go study or relax, and Oliv You & Me is just that place.
Co-owned by sister Boulder residents Jody Spence and Patti Scott, Oliv You & Me specializes in olive oils and is designed to be a place to come relax and take a break from a hectic day.
“It is a great place to come relax and do homework,” Samantha Scott, 21, a junior history and film major said.
Oliv You & Me has enough to offer that it is difficult to categorize. It specializes in olive oils that can be tasted and purchased as well as much more.
For anyone looking for a bite to eat, the place offers coffees, cappuccinos, toast with olive spreads, fresh baked breads and a limited menu.
People looking for gifts will also not be disappointed. Oliv You & Me also sells a variety of unique gifts such as cookbooks and kitchenware varying from colorful utensils to eco-friendly biodegradable plates.
“It’s a great gift store for family members,” Scott said.
An important key to what makes Oliv You & Me unique is its atmosphere.
The walls are brick and are covered with olive oil labels for art, which the owners claim is unique. Combined with hardwood floors and large windows, it has a very European feel.
“We’re trying to encourage a European ambience,” Jody Spence, one of the co-owners said.
It is also well designed for Boulder.
By selling natural and biodegradable materials, Oliv You & Me attempts to be environmental friendly, and it also helps encourage the health trend through selling healthy olive oils.
According to R.D. Karen Collins on MSNBC.com, “Research now shows that many of olive oil’s health benefits may actually come from the more than 30 plant compounds it contains. These compounds’ antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects promote heart health and protect against cancer.”
There are periodic olive oil information and sampling events as well. The next event will be on Oct. 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will feature Kate Notely, an ambassador for Lakelands Oliv Oil from Blue Mountains, Australia.
Oliv You & Me is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To get specific directions, visit their website.
