Fans to wear black for big game
Folsom Field will look like a giant black hole on Saturday.
The buzz around campus is that students are preparing to wear all black to Saturday’s football game against the Florida State Seminoles.
The word was spread initially through Facebook.
Andrew Stuper, a 21-year-old senior marketing major at CU, started a group on Facebook, urging his fellow students to wear all black to Saturday’s game.
Nearly 5,000 students have already declared online that they intend to wear black to the game.
“I think it’s going really well,” Stuper said. “Before, it was just the Facebook group, but now that the Herd is involved, we’ll have a chance to hear about it and show in black.”
The Herd, the student-run branch of the CU Alumni Association, also got involved in spreading the word. Liz Porreca, the president of the Herd Leaders, is excited about the idea.
“The Herd is having the biggest pre-game party in CU history this Saturday and we kind of linked us with them to promote team spirit,” Porreca said. “I think it’s a good idea to get us all wearing the same color.”
Many students who have heard of the proposed blackout seem to be reacting positively to the idea.
Ben Peck, 20, a political science major, first heard about the idea on Facebook.
“I was invited by a few friends. I didn’t join because I really don’t ever join Facebook groups, but I still plan on wearing black,” Peck said. “If it gets pulled off, it’ll look real cool.”
When asked if she had heard about the blackout idea, Aly Whittacker, a 19-year-old open-option major, was unaware but was immediately excited by the idea.
“No, I haven’t heard of it,” Whittacker said. “But I think it’s a cool idea. I’ll wear black.”
