Bus routes expand evening hours
CU students now have a better way to make it home safely after a late night in Boulder.
The HOP bus route is now running through midnight Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays along with the Black, Gold and Silver bus routes, which will run those same nights from midnight until 3 a.m.
This new transit service will use the HOP buses, and will replace the Night HOP bus route.
The extension of the HOP hours and the new night transit routes have coincided with the beginning of CU’s fall semester, and the opening of the new Century Theaters at the Twenty Ninth Street Mall.
The new transit routes offer students a safe and reliable way to return home after a late night of partying on the Hill, visiting bars on Pearl Street or after catching a late night movie.
Coralie Backlund, a freshman chemical and biological engineering major, said she feels more comfortable about going out at night in Boulder since she can take the bus home.
“I am more inclined to go out now that I know I have a safe way to get back,” Backlund said.
Ellen Wagner, a sophomore chemical and biological engineering major, is also pleased with the new transit routes.
“It’s good to know that I can get where I want to go,” Wagner said. “Although, sometimes it’s frustrating when they’re not on schedule.”
Buses along Broadway between Canyon and the UMC are scheduled to arrive every 10 minutes or sooner until 3 a.m. Maps outlining the late night service routes have been posted in buses, as well as in several bus shelters.
“It is our hope that CU students and the community will now find it even more convenient to get around town safely and without a car,” Program Manager of the CU Environmental Center Transportation Program, Peter Roper, said in a press release.
