With a total of 12 comedians and a room full of people waiting to laugh at the Comedy Works Funny Final Four competition Monday night in Denver, CU student Brent Gill lead the way for Team Black.
With his powerful in-your-face personality, Gill, a junior film studies major, made sure the audience was awake and ready to laugh. He even managed to bring a touch of Boulder humor to the stage.
With one of the largest crowds so far for the competition, Team Black not only hit its time limit to the second, it also had a great line-up. Gill joined ranks with other rowdy characters from the Red Fish in Boulder and there was also a special headliner for the team.
Ben Kronberg was the final act of the evening. His dry humor put the crowd into a roar of laughter. Kronberg has been doing stand-up comedy for four years. He was asked to join the team as the headliner by comedian Dick Black because of his regular appearances at Comedy Works.
When asked about Gill, Black said, “You can’t put into words what Brent brings to the stage.”
Black said he saw a special kind of talent in Gill that not many can harness and maintain. He has worked with Gill to help him focus and progress with what comes naturally to him. It seemed like warming up the crowed for the rest of the evening was what came natural for the person known as “Brent the Great.”
Team Black has advanced in the competition and will be taking the stage at Comedy Works again on March 19.
