Women's basketball live coverage: CU vs. Kansas

The Buffs’ free throw shooting down the stretch gives the team the win over Kansas. Despite allowing the Jayhawks to climb within one in the second half, the Buffs tighten up on both ends of the court to pull out the win.

Aija Putnina makes one of two free throws for the Buffs, but CU grabs the rebound on the missed free throw. Jasmina Ilic lays the ball up to give the Buffs a slight advantage. Putnina adds two more free throws for the Buffs in the closing minutes of the game.

Aija Putnina gets a technical foul after snagging for the ball on the ground with a Kansas player. Kansas capitalizes by making both free throws. Kansas makes a bucket, and the Buffs’ lead has completely fallen apart.

Kara Richards makes one of two free throws for the Buffs after an offensive foul. CU takes advantage of a couple of Kansas’ turnovers to increase their lead. Richards gets an easy lay-up and now has 13 points. Aija Putnina comes into the game for Richards, and the Buffs have a tight lead over Kansas in the final minutes.

Jasmina Ilic makes a basket as she gets fouled and finishes the 3-point play with a free throw. Kansas closes down the Buffs’ lead with a couple of quick buckets. The Buffs look tired on offense, and Kansas looks a lot better on both ends of the court.

The Buffs are maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the second half. Jackie McFarland faces a strong double-team on the offensive end of the court, which is limiting her production. Kara Richards is subbed back into the game for the Buffs. She leads the team with 10 points. Aija Putnina is fouled hard on the offensive end of the court, but misses both free throws.

Kansas gets an early 2-pointer after a timeout. Jackie McFarland is still struggling on offense after being subbed back into the game. Both McFarland and Jasmina Ilic are well below their season averages in scoring. Ilic has seven points and McFarland has only six points.

Jackie McFarland is not playing particularly well. She has only four points for the entire game. Kansas starts to close in on the Buffs with a couple of baskets, but the Buffs still have a comfortable lead. Both teams are playing a little sloppy right now, but the Buffs are still in the driver’s seat.

Kansas starts off the second half with the ball, but the Buffs grab the missed shot. A three second lane violation turns the ball over to Kansas, but the Buffs grab the rebound on another missed shot. The Buffs have really stepped up their rebounding in the second half. They are now starting to out-rebound the Jayhawks. Bianca Smith gets the Buffs’ first bucket in the second half. CU is playing a little sloppy with a couple of turnovers on the offensive end of the court. Both teams are not playing as well as they did in the first half.

As the Buffs are getting out-rebounded, Kansas is only shooting 26.1 percent from the field, which is one of the reasons why CU is winning this game. Susie Powers hits a bucket as time expires to strengthen the Buffs lead over the Jayhawks. The Buffs are shooting the ball extremely well with a 47.6 percent field-goal percentage.

An offensive foul by Jackie McFarland forces a turnover for the Buffs. Kara Richards now has eight points, and Jasmina Ilic has seven. The Buffs are now getting dominated on the boards with Kansas grabbing 14 total rebounds and the Buffs snagging only seven.

Whitney Houston has a nice jumper at the top of the key for an easy two points. Kansas answers with another 2-point bucket. Houston gets another 2-point basket. Kansas is starting to slow down on the offensive front with cold shooting. The Jayhawks nail a 3-pointer, and break their cold streak. Aija Putnina gets a bucket as she gets fouled and makes the free throw for a 3-point play.

Kara Richards leads the Buffs with six points and five rebounds. A substitution takes her out of the game, but she is quickly subbed back in after the Buffs start to slow down on both ends of the court. Jasmina Ilic makes a free throw, and the Buffs widen their lead over the Jayhawks. But Kansas knocks down a three point bucket and pulls within two. Ilic is struggling at the line, for she has made only one of two free throws again. Ilic drains a 3-point basket though, and the Buffs continue to pull away.

Kansas takes the lead with two free throws, but Jasmina Ilic has a nice assist to Kara Richards to tie the score. Richards gets another basket, and the Buffs take the lead. Richards get an offensive rebound and puts the ball up for another two points. Jackie McFarland gets her first bucket of the game, and the Buffs start to pull away. The Buffs are rebounding the ball well in the first few minutes, which is paying off on both ends of the court.

In the final home game for seniors Courtney Wallace, Anna Nedovic and Jasmina Ilic, the Buffs face the Kansas Jayhawks. The match-up pins two Big 12 cellar-dwellers; Kansas is 9-18 overall and CU is 11-15. The Buffs get an early four points off buckets by Whitney Houston and Ilic. Kansas follows up with four points to tie the score. The Buffs look sloppy at the beginning of the game.
