CUPD warns to be careful when walking alone in Boulder
A male CU student was attacked and robbed on at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Feb. 19.
The student was walking alone along the footpath north of the CU Recreation Center, when he observed two males standing off of the path.
The victim was then assaulted and struck several times in the face and torso by each suspect and was then knocked to the ground.
The two suspects stole the victim’s backpack and wallet and then fled down the Boulder Creek Path.
A witness observed the suspects, but soon lost sight of them as they fled under the 17th Street bridge.
The first suspect was described as a white male between the ages of 22 and 25, was 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds with a goatee.
The second suspect was described as a Hispanic or Latino male between the ages of 22 and 24 and approximately 5 feet 10 inches in height.
Both suspects were dressed in all black and wore dark colored beanies.
The victim suffered from a swollen eye and face, but declined medical treatment directly after the incident.
“We are hoping it’s a one time incident,” said Lieutenant Brad Wiesley of the CUPD, “but we want to remind students that when walking after dark in remote areas, such as the footpath, that walking in groups is always safer.”
There is not believed to be any connection between this incident and the sexual assualts that occurred in the CU residence halls on Feb. 16 and 17, according to the police.
CUPD is looking for any information available on the suspects and the incident. They are encouraging anyone with information to contact the CUPD Detective Division at (303)492-8168,or if they wish to remain anonymous to call the Crime Stoppers of Boulder County at 1-800-222-8477.
