“A Tom Moulton Mix” (Soul Jazz)
Tom Moulton was one of the best remixers in the world. He invented the 12-inch single and did so much great disco remixing that Soul Jazz decided to put out this two-disc set of his remixes. It’s got some super cheese but it’s mostly really awesome hard
disco that you’d never hear anywhere else.
Laura Gibson – “If You Come to Greet Me” (Hush)
This girl writes some incredibly sincere folk music, and it’s just beautiful. She has Norfolk and Western help her on this recording (one of the dudes recorded the CD), as well as a few other musicians, and it turned her sparse, guitar and vocals folk music into something that, while it’s got the same feeling, has a bigger sound you can get lost in.
Trilobite – “S/T” (Self Released)
If you like your country music slow, drenched in reverb, with male and
female vocals playing off each other perfectly and songs that sound
like small clips of stories because they’re so vivid…get this CD. It almost has perfect sound, and because it is Trilobite’s debut, it might be like something you’ve never heard, and it is wonderful.
