Student sexhibition stories
You remember it well – the right time, the right place, no one around but you and snookums, fogging up the glass in your mom’s minivan.
Sounds a little like senior year in high school, right? Wrong. In fact, several students said that recently they have openly engaged in “sex acts,” (anything from heavy petting to mutual masturbation and oral sex to straight-up doing the nasty) in public.
Locations range from sexy beaches and caves, to parking garages, in cars or tour buses.
“I was in Crystal Cove (Newport Beach), next to the ocean. It was … awesome,” said Anthony Papin, a freshman political science major.
Others were a little more daring when it came their sex lives.
“Name a place, and I’m sure I’ve done something (sexual) there. I’ve been on tour buses, random people’s homes, the list could go on. It’s just fun. My favorite experience, though, was a dressing room at a store in the mall,” said Allysse Watson, of Boulder.
When asked what they would have done had they been caught, most said they would run or simply cover up.
“There’s nothing you can do, so you just sit there under a blanket, with your pants down,” Watson said.
Though many students were wary of giving out explicit details, most of them said they considered themselves to be semi-experienced exhibitionists.
“I guess I would consider myself an exhibitionist,” Papin said. “I did go streak (my high school’s) sister high school. I never really had a problem with it.”
Still others seemed to be old pros, with their nudity the life of the party, literally.
“If being the only naked person at my friend’s birthday party counts, then yes, I am an exhibitionist. My favorite quote from that night was, ‘You know it’s a good party when Allysse gets naked.’ I guess it’s true,” Watson said.
Party trick or not, no one can deny the pulse-racing feeling you get when there’s a possibility that you will be caught with your pants around your ankles.
“I think (sex in public) is about the adrenaline rush,” said Nicole Eidson, a freshman English major.
But beware – getting caught having sex or being naked is probably okay around your roommates, and your parents might even let it slide (despite the emotional scarring), but then if a cop stops you, well, you’re screwed, no pun intended.
“Public indecency and/or exposure is a class one public offense. That penalty comes with a fine of up to 500 dollars and/or up to six months probation,” said Julie Brooks, the Public Information Officer for the Boulder Police Department.
Brooks said that the fines and penalties change by case and by judge, but that they were rare.
“For the two years that I’ve been working here, I haven’t seen any reports of public indecency involving intercourse come across my desk,” Brooks said.
A few students offered some insight as to the best places on campus to take a break from studying.
“If someone could pull it off and were risky enough, the balcony on the top floor of the UMC (would be the best place),” said Marie McDermott, a senior anthropology major. “It has the best view of the city, the Flatirons and Denver.”
A popular legend around campus involves hooking up in the stacks of Norlin Library.
Discretion is the name of the game when it comes to being kinky outside the bedroom, say students. They recommended not parking your car at all, or if you do, avoid setting up shop under bright lighting or seemingly busy locations.
